Choosing your photograph

The photograph does most of the work.

A few minutes choosing the right photo saves a round of proofing later. Here's what to look for.

  • 01

Send the original, not a screenshot

A screenshot of a photo loses resolution twice. Send the original file, or the highest-resolution copy you have.

  • 02

Faces need discernible eyes at print size

If a face is small, blurred or in deep shadow, it usually won't hold up once enlarged onto the wall.

  • 03

    Homes need one unobstructed view

A straight-on or three-quarter view, without cars, foliage or people covering the facade, gives the most accurate result.

  • 04

Composites need one photo per person, plus heights

For a piece composed from separate photographs, send one clear photo of each person and a note on their relative heights, so the composition reads naturally.

  • 05

Old or damaged photos can be restored

Faded, torn or low-resolution originals are often still usable. Send what you have — restoration is part of what we do.

If a photo won't work

We'll tell you before we start, not after.

Every order gets an internal check before any work begins. If your photograph can't support an honest result, we'll reach out with what we're seeing and work through the options with you — a replacement photo, a different size or treatment, or restoration.
